Storyline:
Americans abroad. Roy and Jessie finished a volunteer stint in China. He loves trains, so they go home via the Trans-Siberia Express. There are strains in the relationship, including her past. They meet Carlos, a Spaniard, traveling with Abby, a young American. Carlos keeps close to Jessie, and when Roy is left behind and waits a day for the next train so he can catch up, Jessie and Carlos take a trip into the dead of winter to photograph a ruined church. Carlos may be running drugs, so, later, when Roy catches up and introduces Jessie to his new pal, an English speaking Russian narcotics detective, he's the last person Jessie wants to see. Will the Siberian desolation be their undoing?

Transsiberian offers beautiful photography, entertaining acting, and a compelling mystery--despite occasional stereotypical violence when it came to the Russian police and their treatment of civilians. A longtime Woody Harrelson fan, I appreciated the naive but likeable train-loving character of Roy, and Ben Kingsley is always superb. There are also a few twists and surprises later in the film which make the slow start worth the wait. Go see it -- it's entertaining!

The movie has got me all glued to my seat for it's suspense and unexpected twist. It's has some violent scenes and an unexpected twist. It also gave some ideas on how these drugs rings operate.
The actors were all good in their roles.

One of the worst movies ever. Two of the stupidist people in the world take the train across Siberia, making friends with shaky characters, missing connections, being talked into going to remote locations (without adequate clothing). The violence is graphic and disgusting. It is the first movie I have walked out of in 20 years. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

I loved this movie! I tried not to read too much about it beforehand because so many reviews & trailers have "plot spoilers" - so my attention was held as the plot unfolded.
Great performances from Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Woody Harrelson and Kate Mara (who loses her sunny,cheerleader-y disposition for this performance!)
The first half of the film takes place on the Transsiberian train and the claustrophobic atmosphere really added to the tension as the story began to build. The desolate snowscapes and off-the-beaten path locations in rural Russia gave us a peek at how different things are outside of Moscow.

Not a typical American movie where you always know what is going to happen. There were so many twists and turns that it kept me so engaged I couldn't leave for the bathroom for fear that I would miss something. The acting was superb. The film was full of drama and extreme suspense. In fact, its so suspensful that it keeps your stomach churning. So if you want a light film, this is not it. The cinematography was outstanding. There were a few improbable scenarios (like stealing a train) that insulted the intelligence of the audience, but all in all, I highly recommend this movie. My husband and I also had a great time dissecting the film over dinner. Go see it!
