Storyline:
On the day of James Kirk's birth, his father dies on his ship in a last stand against a mysterious alien vessel. He was looking for Ambassador Spock, who is a child on Vulcan at that time, disdained by his neighbors for his half-human nature. Twenty-five years later, Kirk has grown into a young troublemaker inspired by Captain Christopher Pike to fulfill his potential in Starfleet even as he annoys his instructors like young Commander Spock. Suddenly, there is an emergency at Vulcan and the newly commissioned USS Enterprise is crewed with promising cadets like Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov and even Kirk himself thanks to Leonard McCoy's medical trickery. Together, this crew will have an adventure in the final frontier where the old legend is altered forever even as the new version of it is just beginning.

The movie is pretty good. I loved the begining and the story most of the way. It has a lot of humor and the movie line kept me excited. I say, if you loved a movie that involves humor and some action with a good and reasonable story line then you MUST GO.

Captivating, explosive, amaginative, and great pre-quel. This 2 hr movie, fet like a short 2 hrs. I got to see it again, to spot the hidden stars. Just Go!

I was fortunate to see a press preview to this movie last week. This is a must see for Star Trek fans! This is a nice reimigation of the original Star Trek show by JJ Abrams. The first 15 minutes alone is just go, go, go, and that sets the pace for the rest of the movie. Without being a spoiler .... I can say that it is great to see how the "original crew" came to be, after their Starfleet Academy Training. And tho the only offical member of the original cast is Mr. Nimoy, the new actors/actresses protray a true representation of Kirk, Spock, Ohura, Sulu, Scotty, McCoy and Chekov at a younger age. As a "Trekkie", I can only say there were a few minor sticking points for me, however the balance of the movie well made up for it. There is a romance amongst the crew (not seen in any previews), and I think everyone will be suprised. You will laugh, cry and thoughly enjoy the ride as you hop on board the Enterprise! Live Long and Prosper.

I went last night and saw a prescreening of the new Star Trek movie and enjoyed it. The movie only developed two of the main characters, which of course were Kirk and Spock. The rest of the bridge crew was filled in around them. There were some things that I thought were weird about the character interaction aka love interest in the movie. As a fan of the TOS, STNG, and yes even Enterprise, I really like the movie. For Trekker and newcomers it strikes a balance that both parties will enjoy. The Visuals are cool.

This movie is fine entertainment and if you're familiar with Star Trek, you'll be satisfied, if not very pleased with the result. It hits all the right notes for an action flick/sci-fi extravaganza, but is undeniably thin. The acting is solid, the roles (again, if you already know them) are unmistakable, and the story is airtight, using the tried and true "time travel and its repercussions" gimmick from the sci-fi playbook to explain the variations from the established mythos, even having key characters outright explain certain plot contrivances as if they were speaking directly to the audience. All of these relatively masterful tricks make it a very difficult movie to pick apart plotwise, but I can see how some die-hard trekkies might quibble with decisions that were made in that department. I can't give it a "must go" because little was done to serve those unfamiliar with the franchise, specifically there were far too many 5 second explanations of characters' place in the story.
