Storyline:
The Charlestown neighborhood of Boston is renowned for churning out a high number of armed robbers, generation after generation. These robbers never leave their Charlestown life on their own volition, the neighborhood where there is an unwritten code to protect that lifestyle. Such robbers include friends Doug MacRay, James Coughlin, Albert 'Gloansy' Magloan and Desmond Elden. Doug and James in particular treat each other like family, as the Coughlins have realistically been as such to Doug since Doug's mother ran off and Doug's father, Stephen MacRay, was sent to prison. James' single mother sister, the drugged out Krista Coughlin, and Doug have a casual sexual relationship. The foursome carry out a mostly successful bank robbery, but due to circumstances take the bank manager, Claire Keesey, hostage for a short period before releasing her physically unharmed. They find out that Claire lives in Charlestown...

Excellent movie. Arguably Ben Affleck's best since Good Will Hunting. The story we've heard before: A guy wants out of the old gang and meets a girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But the realism, strong characters, and great dialogue set this apart from being just another standard crime flick. It's Oscar worthy and, more importantly, worth seeing.

WOW! Mult-idimensional characters portrayed by brilliant actors. The script is spare but rich, and the director, (guess who,) should win an oscar for this work. The audience is taken on a carnival ride of emotions. But the situations are far too complex for children under 13, and some parts would scare little ones.

...that kept me involved 100% of the time. This is the first movie since Inception that I would recommend so highly. Heist,drama,guts, romance born of getting to know eachother,rather than hopping into bed,gritty realism,even some understated humor,change and redemption-whether on not it's even possible and the slight hope that there can be a sequel all added up to a fulfilling movie experience....Each actor keeps has your empathy and you really care what happens to them. The story is not totally predictable and you will walk out satisfied,probably at least thinking about seeing again. Only bummer was too little of Cooper. He delivered every word and nuance to perfection in the small role he had. I will see again and purchase.
