Storyline:
Poppy Cross is happy-go-lucky. At 30, she lives in Camden: cheeky, playful, frank while funny, and talkative to strangers. She's a conscientious and exuberant primary-school teacher, flatmates with Zoe, her long-time friend; she's close to one sister, and not so close to another. In this slice of life story, we watch her take driving lessons from Scott, a dour and tightly-wound instructor, take classes in flamenco dance from a fiery Spaniard, encounter a tramp in the night, and sort out a student's aggressive behavior with a social worker's help. Along the way, we wonder if her open attitude puts her at risk of misunderstanding or worse. What is the root of happiness?

There's something about watching how a happy person encounters the world. This is a deeply philosophic film about the supernatural ability the happiness endows.
The best part of the film was when her sister tried to get her to conform to the mediocre ideals of what happiness is -- getting married, financial stability, raising children... and the sister becomes furious that Poppy has none of these things yet remains truly happy. And the fact that Poppy attracts a wonderful man into her life, all because of how she engages with the world around her. She does encounter bumps and bruises, but even those events turn to lightness. Really a humble positive film.

Don't waste your time. I am English and get the humour but the best part was the last 10 min. What a snooze.

There was so much more than met the eye - and I thoroughly enjoyed this film! It came across as shallow and fun - but there were much deeper levels to the relationships and plotlines than you'd imagine. Great performances...fun film...witty dialogue...truly enjoyable!

Sally Hawkins is dazzling, giving one of my favorite performances of the years. This film isn't for everybody, though; some may find Poppy extremely irritating. I, however, thoroughly enjoyed the film and found it charming. It left a smile on my face and raised some interesting questions. Is happiness a way of looking at the world, a choice that Poppy makes every day? The scenes with Hawkins and Eddie Marsan are especially great.
